Every year, my good buddy Justin and I go to the same place for a week in the summer. No, we don’t go together. We’d both been going separately for years with our respective families. So, after we became friends, it was pretty cool to find out that we both head down to Stone Harbor, NJ for vacation every year. This year, he beat me down there by 2 weeks (I’m heading down this Saturday). Jealous as I am that he already had fun down there, I had to share this amazing video he made from the trip. Shot by Justin (all on his 5D Mark II) and edited by his girlfriend Genevieve, this is one of the most awesome 5D Mark II videos I’ve seen yet. Enjoy!

Personal Tales Portraiture by Justin Gaynor

My good buddy, Justin Gaynor, just launched his own portraiture business. I can’t even begin to tell you how awesome his site looks. You just have to check it out for yourself. There are rustling leaves, scratching pencils, moving frames. It’s absolutely amazing.

Justin’s not only a great friend, but he’s also an amazing photographer. If you’re not already familiar with his work from his daily photoblog you should certainly take a few minute to look through the site. His portraits are personally tailored to each of his clients, relaxed, and fun.

Justin is also the guy behind the scenes working on building my site, which should be done in the next couple weeks. And, after seeing what he’s done with his own site, I can’t even begin to tell you how completely excited I am to see what he comes up with for me.

jessica claire’s new blog

While I had absolutely nothing to do with it, I just wanted to tell everyone that the great Jessica Claire has a brand, spanking new blog. The layout is absolutely gorgeous, which matches her photos perfectly, and I’m sure the content will be just as excellent as it always has been.

I’ll freely admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of Annie Leibovitz. I admire what she’s done with her career, for women in photography, and for photography in general. I’ve just never personally been a big fan of her work. I always found it a little too glam. Maybe a little to produced and commercial.

That initial impression changed slightly when I checked out her book, A Photographer’s Life, but I still had that small bit of disinterest lingering.

Well, I don’t know how many of you caught the American Masters: Annie Leibovitz documentary that aired on PBS last night, but that hour-and-a-half special changed a lot of my views of Leibovitz and her work. Kudos to PBS for taking the time to give a good scope of her entire career rather than focusing simply on her magazine and commercial work.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I’m sure PBS will replay it about a million times, so be sure to check your local listings. It’s a great piece about an undeniably important artist.
